The Bertha Foundation for Housing and Art for Social Change Activists are funding scholarship places. You can apply now!
We’re excited to have secured scholarships for housing and art for social change activists this year. As a recipient of the The Bertha Foundation for Housing and Art for Social Change last year I cannot recommend this enough to folks who identify as grassroots activists tackling housing inequality and social change through art in the UK.
I didn’t think my campaigning fit the mould of what Campaign Bootcamp was looking for in applicants. The Bertha Foundation thought otherwise, and clearly, so did Bootcamp! Campaign Bootcamp is a training that gives activists and campaigners the skills, confidence and community to run powerful campaigns.
A Bootcamp is a six-day residential training open to activists in the UK who want to campaign strategically and with confidence. On it, you’ll tool yourself up to run powerful campaigns and you might find some new co-conspirators while you’re at it! I sure did.
Campaigning can look a multitude of ways. Funded by the Bertha Foundation, the Housing and Art for Social Change scholarship is for anyone with direct experience of housing problems and/or working within the arts for social change.
What does the The Bertha Foundation for Housing and Art for Social Change Activists scholarship include?
If you’re successful in getting a scholarship, you’ll get access to the full year-long Campaign Bootcamp programme. It starts with a week of thoughtful and confidence-building training for a group of 35 enthusiastic activists. The topics we cover include planning a campaign, working with the media, fundraising, choosing your tactics, building websites, coding and much more! After the residential is over you’ll get a year of follow up support, including mentoring and extra events.
The scholarship covers training, food and accommodation. We also offer assistance paying for travel to and from the venue for folks who need it.

Moe and I received The Bertha Foundation for Housing and Art for Social Change Activists scholarships last year. Here’s some info about our campaigning:
Left: Moe is a campaign manager/homeless outreach support worker of Opsafe Brighton; a community lead project. She is really passionate about creating social change, building community spirit, and being a voice of the most vulnerable members of society.
Right: Bailey’s activism focuses on youth engagement, working with queer and trans youth on creative projects to support their development and wellbeing.
